“He’s not coming back you know.” Darcy sat on the couch, next to Jane, having a cup of coffee. Erik sat across the room, reviewing papers and such.
“He’s Thor, god of thunder. He’s probably-“
“Dead.”
“Busy.” Darcy sighed. There was then a knock at the door. “Jane’ll get it.”
“Fine.” Jane got up and walked over to the door. She expected someone delivering parts, devices, or something Darcy bought off Ebay. What she did find, was far from that. “T-Thor!?”
“Hello Ms. Foster.” There he stood, best Asgardian outfit on, and the most beautiful flowers in hand. Not to mention the huge grin spread across his face. She couldn’t believe it. But sure enough, there he was. Alive and well. She ran over to him, pulling him into a strong embrace.
“I didn’t think you would come back.”
“That’s a lie. She knew you would.” Darcy stood in the doorway.
“Darcy.”
“I am glad.” Jane turned back to Thor. “I’m sorry I took so long.”
“What happened.” Thor gestured to the door, and they walked in. After Jane put the flowers in a vase and Erik had greeted Thor, She took him outside again and they began to walk around the town, while he explained.
“Once I had returned to Asgard, I found my brother, Loki. He was going to destroy Jötunheim, and-“
“What is Jötunheim?”
“Jötunheim. It is one of the nine realms, and it is where the frost giants dwell. The frost giants were going to start a war with Asgard. So Loki turned on the bifrost and began to destroy Jotenhiem. I stopped him by destroying the bifrost, but we were dangling off the end of the bridge. My father, Odin, had caught me, and I caught Loki’s staff. He told father that he did it for him, and all of us, but my father just said no. Loki- he. He let go of the staff before i could say anything. All I could do was cry out his name, but he had fallen…” Thor trailed off sadly.
“It’s alright, Thor.” Jane comforted softly.
“After, the bifrost was rebuilt I came down here…and here I am.”
“I’m sorry about your brother, but I’m glad your here.”
“I wish. I wish I could have said something, done something. Maybe he would be here with me.”
“There’s nothing you could have done.” Thor nodded sadly.
“Jane!” She turned around to find Darcy running after her.”Jane, the computer froze.”
“Can’t you get Erik to fix it?”
“He’s asleep, and I’ve tried to wake him. Doesn’t budge.” Jane sighed.
“I’m going to go help her. Come in when you like. You’ll have to sleep on the couch tonight. I’ll set up a better place for tomorrow.”
“It is appreciated. Goodnight Ms. Foster.”
“Goodnight, Thor.” Jane left and Thor stayed there for a while, looking up at the stars.
“Where could you have gone Loki?” He was staring up at the sky, when there was a flash of swirling green light. It vanished in an instant, leaving nothing in it’s place. Or so he thought. He heard a soft voice from behind him.
“Hello, Thor.” Thor sat up quickly, recognizing the figure even in the dim light.
“Loki!?”
To any bystander, the look on Thor’s face must have been a priceless Kodak-moment. It was of overwhelming happiness mixed with confusion and a dash of hurt. There was Loki, there was his little brother, standing directly in front of him, wearing the same clothes he had last saw him in when they fought on the bifrost.
The two stared at each other for a moment or two, realization taking that long to sink into the blond’s head, before Thor rushed over to Loki and swooped him up into the tightest bear hug known to man. As time went on, Thor hugged his little brother tighter and tighter, leaving Loki gasping for breath under the constriction. “Br-Thor.. Thor.. Thor!”
Thor let go, placing Loki back on the ground. “Loki… I can not believe it! You are alive! You are on Midgard! Have you been here the whole time?”
“Yes, I have been here the whole time.”
Thor stared at his brother in disbelief, a warm and confused grin donning his face.
“You are not mad?”
Thor’s face switched from joy to shock, “Mad? Brother, why would I be mad?”
“After what I did.”
“Loki, you are my little brother, I could never be mad at you. You threw a temper tantrum that got a bit out of control, and that is all in the past now. I just can not believe you are here, I thought I had lost you…” Loki shifted his stance, feeling a bit uncomfortable and awkward. “Is something wrong, brother?”
“You know we are not family, right?”
“…What do you mean?”
“We are not brothers, we are not related.”
“Loki, what are you talking about?”
“Did Odin not tell you?”
“Tell me what?” Thor replied, getting a bit frustrated.
“I am Laufey’s son. I am a runt of a frost giant that was left to die because no one wanted me.”
“Is this one of your pranks?”
“Odin brought me back to Asgard because he felt sorry for me. He brought me back in hopes of using me as a gambling piece in hopes to make peace with Jötunheim. He did not want me as a son, he wanted me as a pawn.”
“That is not true!”
“He wanted to use me and that is all! Are you telling me that he did not tell you any of this?”
“He did not say a word, brother.”
“We are not brothers.”
They stood there, Loki looking at the ground, Thor looking curiously at the man standing across from him that he still considered his brother. They stood there like this, silent, for much too long. The wind started to pick up around them, sending a chill throughout what Jane would call a yard and what most would call a patch of dirt with few blades of grass scattered about with a few lilies bordering the walk way up to the front door. They stood there until Loki looked back up at Thor, “I came here for a reason.”
“What do you need, brother-?”
“Stop calling me that.”
“I will not. Now what do you need?”
“I need to speak with you about something.”
Thor tilted his head slightly, curious and confused.
“Speak your mind, brother, and I will hear you.” Thor could tell Loki wanted to correct him for saying ‘brother’ but he didn’t and just ignored it.
“Thor, tell me.” He paused. “Do you… Agree with Odin?” Thor furrowed his brows.
“In what way?”
“When he told me on the bridge. You remember. I told him I could have done it, but he just said no. And you. You were silent.” Thor could tell Loki was beginning to become upset. “Do you agree with him. Do you think I am useless, that i could not have done it?”
“Brother it’s not like- I just didn’t know what to say.” This sent Loki off.
“Didn’t no what to say, eh? Or you just wanted to spare me from further humiliation. As I suspected. You are both alike. You think I am truly useless. Is that it?”
“Brother, that’s not it at all. If I had known-“
“Known what. That I would let go, maybe you would have said something. Just to spare yourself the guilt. Even now, you don’t even care about me. Just relieving yourself of the guilt that you feel.”
“Brother you know that’s not true-“
“You lie.” Loki’s face was twisted with anger. And it showed in his bright emerald eyes. “I will never believe you.”
“Brother.”
“He’s not coming back you know.” Darcy sat on the couch, next to jane, having a cup of coffee. Erik sat across the room, reviewing papers and such.
